Our Maths Presenter, Dr Katie Steckles is a mathematician and maths communicator who delivers engaging talks and workshops. Katie delivers maths shows to schools as part of Think Maths, alongside Stand-up Mathematician Matt Parker, working mainly with secondary (KS3-5) age groups. She has travelled all over the UK, visiting schools for full days and single talks, as well as travelling to Ireland for Maths Week and visiting schools in Europe. Katie has also run Think Maths workshops for GCSE revision days, science fairs and festivals, and school maths weeks.
Katie also gives masterclasses for the Royal Institution, as part of their Mathematics Masterclass programme for secondary and primary groups, and has given talks in the Faraday Lecture Theatre. She writes and delivers talks and workshops on a huge range of topics within mathematics, from real-world applications to more theoretical pure mathematics (her favourite). Katie is experienced at speaking to a range of audiences from school groups and family audiences to adults, and works happily with small groups and large audiences.
If you’re looking to book someone enthusiastic and knowledgable, who will explore new mathematical topics in a fun and engaging way, Katie is available to visit schools, run workshops and events, and many other things besides – her recent work has also included consultancy on mathematics theatre projects, art gallery residencies, stand-up comedy at the Edinburgh Fringe and elsewhere, after-dinner light entertainment, compering and children’s birthday parties. She makes videos for YouTube, including the Numberphile channel which has over a million subscribers. She has also worked with the team at Maths Busking to deliver maths-based street performance at science festivals, as well as entertaining crowds at conferences and corporate events.
